Jingyi Xie
Jingyi Xie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at San José State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Informatics from Penn State University, advised by Prof. John M. Carroll, and a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the same institution, advised by Prof. Qiushi Chen.
Jingyi's research focuses on the intersection of Accessibility and Human-Centered AI. She designs, develops, and evaluates interactive systems that empower blind or low-vision people to access and engage with visual information. Through a user-centered design approach, she investigates how AI can enhance and transform collaborations between visually impaired users and their sighted assistants in areas such as navigation, art creation and appreciation, and privacy. Her work has been published at top venues, including CHI, CSCW, HFES, TOCHI, IUI, and DIS.
Beyond research, Jingyi actively contributes to the visually impaired community through volunteer work with the National Federation of the Blind and by reading textbooks for visually impaired students, having completed a 388-page textbook to date.
